Looking forward to a summer full of great concerts!

Today my ticket to see Bob Dylan in Toulouse in June arrived!!! YIPEEE! I’m hoping that the concerts in Andorra and Zaragoza will be confirmed soon and I can get tickets to them. I plan to start a week’s holiday on June 20th driving to Toulouse for the first concert (and hopefully seeing some fellow translator friends the following day), then maybe on to Andorra and then to Zaragoza, where I intend to spend a couple of days visiting the Expo on water and another couple of days nourishing my soul at the Monasterio de Piedra just outside Zaragoza. Check out its website to see why! I stayed in the hotel many, many years ago with my parents on a holiday and have this wonderful memory of the place. I see from the website that the hotel has upgraded somewhat since then, but hey!! I’m worth it 🙂 But all that beautiful water and nature will renew me spiritually, ready to face the summer with new energy.

Other concerts I have spied, but can’t yet get tickets for, are Joan Baez at the Palau de la Música Catalana and Leonard Cohen – who’s going on tour for the first time in 15 years – at Cap Roig in Palafrugell. It seems he’ll be there two nights running so hopefully I’ll be able to get a ticket! It’s a beautiful place for a concert, under a full moon – if you’re lucky!! – in a beautiful botanical garden overlooking the sea, but it’s a place that appeals to the local jet set and us mere mortals have a hard time getting tickets as it only holds 1600 people. I was SO incredibly lucky (and tenacious) two summers ago and managed to get two tickets to see Dylan there (sigh………..) and last year I saw Joan Baez there which was magic. I’d never seen her live before even though I have enjoyed her music and been singing from her Song Book since I was about 13!!

What a fun summer in store!!

He has obviously done a lot of research into each programme and one gets the impression that he has probably had great fun doing it. Quite a lot of what he plays is from “before my time” so I don’t know it, but it’s fascinating to hear what Bob must have been hearing as he grew up and what, therefore, must have influenced his own music in one way or another.

The programme was originally broadcast on http://www.xmradio.com/bobdylan/. The BBC at http://www.bbc.co.uk/6music/shows/bob_dylan/ are still offering the programmes but you can download them from the http://www.expectingrain.com page too.

How does it feel…..

…. to be one of only 1,600 people in the whole world who will see Bob Dylan on July 6th. Talk about dedication!! I started trying to book on the internet site at 8 am, but it had collapsed, so I then started ringing the phone number they gave at 9 o’clock on the dot, and every time it came up with the engaged signal I rang straight back…. I finally got through just before 2 pm!! I won’t even say how much I had to pay for the tickets (OUCH!!!), but my tenacity worked and I got two wonderful tickets to see my Bobby!!! So… it feels absolutely WONDERFUL and I can’t wait. I am sorry though, for all the other people who wanted to go and weren’t as lucky as I was…. I promise to share the concert soon after, so maybe those who couldn’t get tickets will be able to enjoy some of it, though second hand!!!

Dylan brings it all back home!!

Bob Dylan is a person who has brought me immense happiness over the years with his music, his concerts, his poetry and his thoughts. Every time he comes to Spain I go and listen to him and have been lucky enough to “bump into him” after three of his concerts in Barcelona and have a little chat with him (see my website for more details), so imagine my delight when I read that he will be playing this year – on July 6th – in the Cap Roig Botanical Garden in Palafrugell – just about 30 minutes from my home!!! He is getting nearer and nearer!! Hey Bobby!! Any time you want to come and give a concert – or even just stop by for a drink and a chat – at my place, just give me about 10 seconds warning!!!

Bob in concert is something totaly magic. I first saw him at The Picnic in Blackbushe in 1978 and fell in love with him and I haven’t looked back since!! I confess to being BOBsessed, with almost 300 recordings of concerts and outtakes etc. But I find it so amazing that the same person can sing the same song 200 times and yet each time that song is different.

I can’t wait for July 6th!!!! Thanks Bobby, for coming back after a few years of giving Spain a miss.
